Wiarton District Family

Literacy Association

Who we are and what we do.

Wiarton District Family Literacy (WDFL) is a non-profit agency working with families, youth and seniors in the Wiarton area providing confidential one-on-one tutoring and computer-assisted small class learning to those wishing to improve their reading, writing, math and computer skills.

Our focus is to provide a variety of educational and alternative

communication opportunities to the general population.

WDFL was originally known as Schoolhouse Literacy Skills, which was

incorporated in 1989.

From the outset it had an independent board of directors representing the community interest, that has continued today throughout various renaming.  About five years ago, Schoolhouse Literacy Skills became the Bruce

Peninsula Learning Centre.

In April 2006 a separate agency was formed that is Community based and Community run by many volunteers.

This new program was then registered under the name of Wiarton District Family Literacy Association.  It has returned to many of the ideas and

principles that were so successful for many years for Schoolhouse Literacy Skills.
