PRESENT STATUS
The program started in
April with two volunteers, and 25 students.
Over the past few months this has quickly increased.
We now have 35 students
and eight volunteers. Classes at
present are filled and we are looking at opening new classes for the fall
session.Classes currently run four days a week,
from Tuesday through Friday.
Tuesday classes
Two classes for Community Living Students who
are working on communication, academic upgrading and computer skills.
Wednesday classes
An Academic Class has
become popular because of its two to one
instruction level. We have four
instructors available that night for eight students. Students work on Math
and English Comprehension, both using our new series of Mystery Reading
Comprehension Books and computer Numeracy Programs.
Three Friday classes
Road Race Home
1. One-on-one tutoring sessions for
individuals
2. An open 1.5 hour class for the general
public, which has proven to be quite popular, to upgrade their computer
skills. This has had an appeal especially to our Community Seniors. The
oldest student in this class is a 91-year-old woman who has since purchased
her own computer.
3. A Men’s Group class from a Local Agency. Students compete in
word games on the computer thus upgrading their English and
computer skills, as well
having social interaction.
